Chronic pain modulation in the brain

¿How is food intake modified when there is underlying chronic pain?

Anatomy of pain pathways (From Basbaum et al., 2009)

Both chronic pain and eating disorders are multi-factorial diseases with a significant presence in the world’s general population. Of both disorders, their neurobiological bases are still, not well understood, so there are no completely adequate treatments.

This research project develop at the Neurophysiology Lab proposes to study the connection between the presence of chronic pain and the possible irregularities in the food intake generated precisely by the underlying chronic pain.

Specifically, we propose to study the neuroanatomical and functional bases of a model of binge eating associated with a model of chronic pain, in order to be able to contribute in the future to better therapeutic options for the treatment of these diseases.
